W510 - How do I remove the keyboard??

#1 Post by drfranktate » Sat Mar 06, 2010 7:53 pm

The online user's guide says to take out the 2 screw underneath, then push the keyboard toward the display. It's not budging at all. Anyone have any tips??

Make sure you're removing the right (2) screws. See the maintenance manual page 93. One of them is under the DIMM cover.

I'm certain I've removed the correct 2 screws. The keyboard moves a TINY bit, but I'm hoping for hints on exactly where to push on it, or with what kind of implement. NOTE: I've already ruined the F1 and ESC keys, so I'll be ordering a replacement keyboard shortly (and also I don't mind getting a little rough with it at this point).

Thanks
Frank

Push the black bezel on the keyboard by the power button towards the LCD. The front of the keyboard will pop up.

That's what I tried and tried, to no avail. The right side would move, but the left side wouldn't budge. I've called Lenovo and I'm sending it in for them to change the keyboard under warranty. When I get it back, hopefully I'll be able to remove it myself, but if not, I'll take it to a local shop.
