T40p Jittery Screen: Heat or GPU?

#1 Post by Bruce Guttman » Sat Mar 06, 2010 9:15 pm

I have a T40p that will start up normally and after a modest period of time the screen will get jittery. At that time the heat sink will feel warm, although SpeedFan still indicates a low temperature.

I can temporarily get the display to clear if I press on the area near the TrackPad, indicating that the GPU connection is getting faulty.

Can I fix this by getting a new fan (keeping the connection cooler) or is a reflow indicated?

New fan will not do much of anything, I'm sorry to say.

Re-flowing/re-balling or a new board are called for...
