X200s and security chip + GPS

#1 Post by Blackhold » Sun Mar 07, 2010 9:21 am

Hello,
I have just bought an X200s, just of the recent stolen of my last X200.

I decided to buy this model due it low consume, and long battery life. Also I picked this laptop due the amount of complements, such mediabase, chargers, batteries and the 12v charger that I have permanently in my car (is amazing to could connect your laptop anywhere!).

In my new laptop I activated password to boot the computer, so then if someone stoles me again the laptop will simpy stole a wall brick hehe.

but I want to go ahead. I heard about a security chip, and this model (74663RG) has GPS.

I use gnu/linux debian, and it seems that wwan card is detected and all the devices are capable on /dev
(oops now I'm seeing it and seems don't appears, maybe I disabled it by error on bios)

The one is:
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0bdb:1900 Ericsson Business Mobile Networks BV
and is connected by usb port.

So then, what I could do to detect by GPS where's my laptop when it is stolen?

if it is not possible to enable this function, there's some way to insert a chip or a hardware to do this function?

Thanks you much. o/

I am fairly sure that the GPS does not transmit your location. The best bet is to subscribe to and activate a service like Computrace.
