General Error using Rescue and Recovery 2.04.0182

I currently have WinXP Pro SP3 installed. I am running R&R 2.04.0182. Every time I run the backup there would be an error stating the program need to be closed and prompt me if I want to send a report. Yet when I run the R&R again, the previously "closed" program is running and the backup seems good. Should I download Rescue and Recovery 4.21? Is the newer 4.21 version of R&R straightforward to replace my current version? And is 4.21 backward compatible with my previous backups? Or should I use Rescue and Recovery 3.0 instead? Thanks.

If it was me, I would not update R&R.

To install R&R 4.21 you would need to uninstall your old version.
Rescue and Recovery 4.21 can only upgrade versions 3.1, 4.0, or 4.1, 4.2.

Traditionally R&R backups have never been backwardly compatible.

As GomJabber says, I would not bother to update it.
Far better to use an alternative such as Acronis.
