Home Broken in to!
OK
Some jackash decided he needed my property worse than I did this morning. Instead of breaking into my workshop he came in through the front window of the house. Gone are the following:
Laptop#1
IBM T30 with 1.25gig memory WAS password protected.
Serial# 23669U6990HC0B
Special Features, this laptop contained an IBM Unauthorized WiFi card, it was an Atheros based card from an Everex computer.
Laptop#2
IBM T30 with 512 mb memory, 20 gig hard drive WAS password protected
Special Features, custom painted laptop, custom decaled laptop. Bottom of the right hand lower housing had a small portion missing from it.
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=79990
Laptop#3
IBM X30 with 1gig memory, 4.86 gig hard drive WAS password protected
Serial# 26724BU78BAA59
Special Features, this laptop contained an IBM Unauthorized WiFi card, it was a BroadCom based card
Laptop#4
HP NC-4000 with 512mb memory, 40 gig hard drive WAS password protected.
No special Features.
Im thinking to myself, I have been trying to rid rid of R40's and A31p ans A22m for months, and this prack, decides to take my personal stuff.
Geez
Ron
EDIT
Ray suggested I post the Serials so if anyone stumbles on these, let me know!

Re: Home Broken in to!
Sorry to hear about your mishap. Hopefully they were stupid enough to leave plenty of tracks for the cops to get them...
I've had some stuff like that (and then some, but that's a whole another bluesy tune) happen to us in the past, and the last time they were dumb enough to break in in the middle of the night...long story short, they were greeted appropriately since this household is well-armed and taken away in handcuffs a bit later...
Hang tough and good luck.

Re: Home Broken in to!
Laptop #1 and #2 were my personal. XP was tweaked and the uBuntu was tweaked. The X30 was a backup to the X31 my son uses in school. He is LD and the best thing we have ever done to help him, was get him an X31. The last one was just one I had picked up for next to nothing, nothing sentimental about it.

I class myself as a liberal and I can clearly state that I believe theft to be wrong and inexcusable.
When I read Ron's post it made me sad to think of a forum member suffering from a crime. The only positive is that I understand he was physically unharmed.

then, killer, you are not a true liberal..killer wrote:I class myself as a liberal and I can clearly state that I believe theft to be wrong and inexcusable.
......
admit it, you have conservative tendencies if you think theft is wrong..
for if you truly think theft is wrong you can not hold that a single person taking some other persons wealth is wrong while government taking wealth from that same person and giving it to one or many is OK..
(tyranny of the majority!)
in the FWIW column, thanks for the money..
my wife, a brit, just got her first payment from the UK pension system..
and i DO thank you brit taxpayers for your (willing or unwilling) generosity..
ain't socialism wonderful..
and what does this sentiment make ME..?
methinks we are all a mix..
you might ask why i pay my taxes here in the USA..
well, "they" have more and bigger guns and its easier, to a point, to go along rather than take up arms and fight..
remember, The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament on March 22, 1765 (thanks google and wikipedia) which was the "straw" that started this american experiment in government..
we now may be watching another "straw" breaking the back of the middle class who want their nation back from the political powers-that-be..?
it has been said that three things motivate mankind..
money, *sex* and power..
i don't concur..
i think power drives most of mankind..
at least those who aspire to political office and power..
because once you have political power the other two just naturally follow..
just look at the political corruption in the news..

Re: Home Broken in to!
Bill,
Surely there is a huge difference between common theft and the democratic decision by a nation to redistribute wealth?
Theft is morally wrong. It is an invasion of one's property and ignores respect for one's basic rights.
Democratic decisions are the opposite. Future elections offer the chance to change the policy. The result may not be to your liking but it is democratic. The alternative is to have the decisions made by a few rather than the masses. Maybe you'd prefer that?
Meanwhile, please enjoy the right of your wife to spend her UK pension. I helped to pay for it and I am happy for her to have it.
All the best.

meanwhile, you fail to respond to the several points in the "free stuff" argument..

Re: Home Broken in to!
So what do you do about stolen laptops, is there a place to post serial numbers incase they are found?
I had my car broken into 10 or more years ago in my garage (they stole my pricey car stereo system, probably kids who hung around the shop that installed it). Being violated like that at your home does make you mad, and I can see why some people would shoot at those are robbing them if they seen them.
Sometimes I wonder if the Thinkpads I collect now were stolen ages ago when they were worth something.

There are many of us liberals who define gun control as good sight picture, breathing and trigger control. Believe it or not, it is VERY possible to be pro-choice, pro-tax, anti-church and pro-gun all at the same time.BillMorrow wrote:now now gentlemen..

Re: Home Broken in to!
Had the jerkwad stuck his head around the corner of the stairs, he would have found a small arsenal hanging on the wall, all trigger locked, or having their bolts removed, but an arsenal none the less. Had those come up missing, I would have hunted the $0B down and fed him via the muzzle of a certain, semi automatic Remington, which by the way is a very sweet small animal life terminator. Mind you, not that Im threatening anyone with permanent damages, so to speak. But a pretty good winging would be in his future if I could track him down. I would swear that he was coming after me, and I was in deep and constant fear for my life. No jury in this county of gun toting rednecks would ever convict me.

Maybe it's like using an image-editing program. An object on the right in an image is seen as being "on the left" when you expand the canvas far enough to the right. Though it's physical position hasn't changed, it's relative position has. In this case, perhaps the "canvas" has been expanded to the left, so to speak?BillMorrow wrote:not to further hijack this thread i have, of late, begun to ask myself why as a 20 year old liberal native san franciscan in 1958 and without much real change in outlook become a conservative, strict constructionist, libertarian..?

BTW, I have two T30s with SXGA+ for sale (one with the [new/refurbed] LCD that you seem to hate for some unknown reason).
