X60s fails to recognize DIM in 2nd slot position
I have bought a used X60s (model 1702-3QU) that seems to function properly in all respects, however, I put in one stick of 2GB PC2-5300 RAM in the left-hand slot (towards the HDD) and find that the machine does not recognize a 2nd stick (1GB or 2GB) in the right-hand slot. I can shuffle around the RAM modules and the machine recognizes the one on the left but will not recognize the same module if on the right side. The modules seat properly and the sockets appear to be physically normal - not corroded or damaged - and the RAM is correct. Any ideas how I may install a 2nd DIM and have it recognized?

Is your 2G stick recognized by itself?
I was under the impression that 2G was the maximum on the X60(s) and 3G on the X61(s), maybe that's the problem?

The X60/s will accept 2 x 2GB memory sticks, but the chipset will "see" only 3GB. His problem is something other than the 3GB limit. It sounds like he has a bad socket or similar hardware issue.

Re: X60s fails to recognize DIM in 2nd slot position
Hmmm, bad socket. So I'm not overlooking some weird BIOS configuration or anything glitchy like that? I was hoping to bump up to 2GB+1GB but may have to be content with the 2GBx1.....

It may be a contact problem. You can insert the ram and remove it a few times to grind in the socket.

The first thing to try is to clean the memory contacts with a soft cloth with denatured alcohol or electronics cleaner. Then try to clean the socket with aerosol electronics cleaner.
