Question re: installation of windows 7 on refurbed T400
Question re: installation of windows 7 on refurbed T400
I think the T400 I got on ebay will be arriving tomorrow. I bought a legitimate retail upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium on ebay also but I don't think it's going to arrive tomorrow. The T400 has XP on it so I'll need to do a clean install. I really want to start setting it up tomorrow but can't while it still has XP on it. My question is, if I use an iso version of Windows 7 which I think is the full version to install Windows 7 tomorrow, will I be able to enter the license key from the retail upgrade version when it arrives? In other words, I think, is there any difference between a license key from an upgrade version vs. a full version? Thanks and I hope I'm not asking anything inappropriate here.
Re: Question re: installation of windows 7 on refurbed T400
What is an "iso version of Windows 7"? . Are you talking about something downloaded from the Internet with an illegal key? If yes, you are correct we won't discuss that here.
Re: Question re: installation of windows 7 on refurbed T400
I am talking about a downloaded version but not an illegal key. I don't intend to do anything illegal and don't believe using a downloaded version of windows is illegal. If it is, I apologize and this can be deleted.
As I said, I purchased a retail box that you would buy at a store.
I'd like to get started setting up this laptop and the retail version will not arrive during the weekend. I believe one has 30 days to activate the license. All I want to know is whether or not the full version key and upgrade key might be different. I want to load windows tomorrow and enter the key from the legitimate retail box for which I paid real money when I get it.

Re: Question re: installation of windows 7 on refurbed T400
My guess is that an upgrade key would be different than a full version key. Try it and let us know if it works.
Re: Question re: installation of windows 7 on refurbed T400
It ended up that I didn't do this. I had a minor dispute with the seller of the T400 because it wasn't completely as described. During the day it took to resolve the issue the copy of Windows 7 arrived in the mail.
