X301 fails to sleep second time?
Anyone have this problem? I have an X301 running 64-bit Windows 7, all the most current device drivers from the Thinkpad Device Driver page.
The system will sleep fine the first time; will come out of sleep fine; but the next time I attempt to put it into sleep it fails. Screen goes dark, hard disk activity is similar to the burst before normal sleep, but it just doesn't go into sleep. The system is un-responsive to input and I eventually have to hard power down and reboot.
Any suggestions or pointers gratefully accepted...

Re: X301 fails to sleep second time?
I got a similar problem with my T410 running Ubuntu Linux.
First time going into sleep mode works fine, but the 2nd time around the T410 does not wake up any more - instead, it reboots.
Very curious that there is a similar behavior across different products and platforms. Maybe a bios issue?

Do you by chance have the GOBI 3G modem in your's? I seem to remember reading something similar somewhere...

This is a known issue with Windows 7 and certain newer thinkpad models. It happens to my X301 still, with a clean install (and a new ssd). And I know there is a thread in the X60 section, and in the windows 7 section too.laughingtonto wrote:Anyone have this problem? Unfortunately I have yet to encounter any fix that actually works. It is much better with the SSD, it will go in/out of standby 4 or 5 times now (before it would only do it once, like yours) before it hangs after the screen dims.
if you notice, it will probably do it when you try to shut the computer down too (after it has been in stand by a few times), and/or the display wont change brightness (through any means).

Okay. Over the weekend, I'm going to be going through turning off one device after another trying to eliminate specific drivers as the problem. My X301 consistently fails to sleep every second attempt so it'll be alittle easier than those with "less reliable" failure.
Hmmm. Sounds like a feature.

Have you tried disabling the disk turn-off? i.e. turn off the screen after a certain number of minutes, and sleep a while later, but never turn off the disk until sleep? That has worked for me on several different Thinkpad models when I had the same problem.

I have not tried that. I'll test that one first. Thanks.

Well, my wife ran the driver update available through System Update before I could get to the machine and everything is working fine now. Sorry I wasn't able to find the specific problem folks.
