T60 Question (pic warning)

#1 Post by garysblim » Fri Mar 12, 2010 12:20 am

Hi all:

I need your opinion. I saw this T60 on sale on ebay with model number 2008VRQ. According to Lenovo, here is the spec:

Based on 2008-CTO: T2400(1.83GHz), 1GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 14.1in 1400x1050 LCD, 128MB ATI Radeon X1400, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

Is this a good model? Any GPU problem? I think it's 287 shipped. Reasonable? I'm thinking of getting it for kids use.

Thanks,

Gary

There's no GPU issues on the T60 like the T4x or the T61 Thinkpads. Much of the value will be determined by the condition of the unit. Got any info on that?

I think there are a few people have dealt with the seller. here is the listing:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 1554wt_939

It looks reasonable. I was debating between 32 vs 64 bits issue. But it seems the benefit is marginal for a laptop with maximum memory of 4 Gb.

Any input is very much appreciated.

I have an almost identical T60, except mine has a T2700 (2.33GHz) CPU.
Highly recommendable model if the KB and LCD are in good shape.

The max RAM is 3GB by chipset limitation. So even if it had a 64-bit processor, there'd be no sense to it

Second that. And good shape is relative for the keyboard. I traded a new, mint-shape Chicony for a mighty worn NMB one with shiny keys. Guess what - I am happy ;)

According to the seller and his feedback, it seems to be a good unit. I'm about to pull the trigger! :) Thanks guys.

[censored]. Not using identical RAM modules, you are disabling dual channel(using RAM only at half of the speed). And about 3GB limit its not chipset, but BIOS limitations, and there are threads with T60 4GB bioshacks.

Ram at half speed? More like 95% speed. Running symmetrical Vs asymmetrical dual-channel isn't noticeable in everyday use.

Do you have links to these fabled BIOS hacks? AIUI it's a chipset limit, I'd love for you to prove me wrong.

I've got a T60P running 32-bit Vista Business and showing 4GB of RAM in the System Control Panel. I took a screen shot of it but need moderator permission to post it. My model details are in my sig.

EDIT: Never mind! Rookie mistake - I was looking in the regular System Control Panel specs. The advanced system specs showed 4GB of RAM installed, but only 3GB being addressed.

You can see it in the control panel and in the bios. You just cannot use it.
