Intermittent BSODs on a T40
Intermittent BSODs on a T40
Although I have my suspicions, I just wanted to check with everyone and see if somebody has other ideas on this machine.
I have a co-worker with a T40 that operated fine for some time. About a year and a half ago, I did a reburb for her, by upgrading RAM, replacing the HDD with a new one and restored with original disks. About 6 months ago, she said that it was giving her physical memory dumps and BSODs, most typically associated with the use of the DVD/CDRW drive. I swapped drives with her and it was fine for a little while, but the symptoms came back. I did a reload and it didn't resolve the issues. It operates fine in most cases, so the problem is hard to track for me since I haven't been able to get it to reproduce except once.
Of course, the machine being a T4x, I suspected GPU detachment, but it doesn't really present as that; it behaves more like a southbridge issue.
Thoughts anyone?

Assuming it's the Southbridge, any hard disk errors, USB port problems (are they still USB2.0 and not 1.1)?
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

I hadn't thought to check the USB yet, but was intending to run tests on the HDD next, so hopefully I'll see something on that this weekend when I have some time.RealBlackStuff wrote:Assuming it's the Southbridge, any hard disk errors, USB port problems (are they still USB2.0 and not 1.1)?
Thanks for reminding me about that.

If the blue screen message contains a reference to an ATi driver, then it's likely a loose GPU...

Seeing as I am attempting to document a single bit failure in a newly received 512MB PC133 Micron module, I'd check the memoryschen wrote:Although I have my suspicions, I just wanted to check with everyone and see if somebody has other ideas on this machine.
