LCD Upgrade, XGA to UXGA or SXGA+, can I use old a30 LCD?

#1 Post by eyestrain » Sun Mar 14, 2010 11:42 pm

Is it possible to upgrade a 4:3 15" T60, say a 2007-57U, from XGA to UXGA using an old LCD from an earlier Thinkpad model, if I buy the right LCD cable for the T60? Maybe swapping the screens, or maybe using a broken laptop with a useable screen. I like them dim. :)

Some a30 models for example had 15" UXGA.

Similar question for 14" screens, getting SXGA+ into a 4:3 T60, or even into a T42, again if I get the T60 or T42 SXGA+ cable.

Thanks.

I believe those older screens are missing something called an EDID chip that is necessary for the T6x series to determine the LCD resolution.

Thanks, looks like it's possible, but with way too much work and skill!

I did search, honest, but searching about something like screen or KB can be challenging without sufficient search-fu!

Seems my best option is to sell the XGA T60 2007-57U & buy a T60 or T61 with a screen I want. Screens by themselves are too expensive.
