Is it a way to cool down South Chip (T43)?
Is it a way to cool down South Chip (T43)?
T43 running hot on bottom of touchpad area, and fan keep running even when cpu temp drop to 35 degree and GPU 40 C. I have removed WiFi Card and place a heatsink on South Chip. It cool down, and fan stop when cpu temp drop to 41 degree. But, I need WiFi connection. Is it a way to place heatsink on with WiFi card on top of it.?

In your case, the only solutions seems to be a PCMCIA wifi card.
Maybe you need to clean out the CPU fan and/or replace the thermal paste between CPU and cooler?

Long CPU heatsink clean up and thermal paste replace with Arctic Sliver 5 that's why CPU temp able drop to 35c in idle. Fan keep spin high due Souch chip's heat. maybe i need external WiFi card and I'll get weak signal without antennaRealBlackStuff wrote:In your case, the only solutions seems to be a PCMCIA wifi card.

Re: Is it a way to cool down South Chip (T43)?
A couple of things here...
What CPU do you have in that T43? Have you tried undervolting it?
Also, if the Southbridge is getting as hot as you're describing, even with the wireless card removed, there's something wrong with that picture. Are you running a lot of stuff through USB ports?

Cpu running 1.86ghz and undervoltage to 1.21v controlled by HWC. CPU temp is fine, SB temp running hot as i concern. I rarely used USB port, only use as iphone charging and USB thumb drive in USB port.ajkula66 wrote:A couple of things here...

Stop charging your iPhone with the T43!
What an utterly stupid thing to do!
Iphone Battery Capacity: 1400 mAh 3.7V
The USB port will give a max. of 500mA at 5V.
Your poor port is working overtime, which is killing (read overheating) the Southbridge!

That's even close to reasonable answer. I charge my iphone 20~30 min per/day. My T43 power on 3~5hrs/day. You are assuming charging iphone that cause SB overheat. What are dumb statement.RealBlackStuff wrote:Stop charging your iPhone with the T43!

I don't think the USB power pins go thru the Southbridge. Lots of thru put would heat it up. The CPU profile is set to Adaptive and HDD and LCD off timer is set?

RBS, there is no need to use the term 'stupid' on this forum. Rule # 3 - Ad hominem and personal attacks are not permitted. Criticize the ideas, not the people.

Is any having any idea?? I have two small heatsink stick on top of SB... CPU 40C idle and GPU 43 on default clock. Fan keep spinning and make noise. Can't tell what's temp in SB. NB has small heatsink as well. I also try ACPI file in NHC, but NHC doesn't work, it keep says, system not yet config. Follow this instruction, doesn't work. http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... &start=100

Did you set the CPU profile to "Adaptive"?

CPU profile to "Adaptive?? What's that? Did you mean set something in NHC profile?sjthinkpader wrote:Did you set the CPU profile to "Adaptive"?
Re: Is it a way to cool down South Chip (T43)?
It's a setting in Power Manager. You may have to create a new power scheme, and when you do, you can set the CPU speed to adaptive. I.e. it will clock down when you're not anything CPU intensive. NHC has a similar option.Tekken wrote:CPU profile to "Adaptive?? What's that? Did you mean set something in NHC profile?

Re: Is it a way to cool down South Chip (T43)?
CPU profile to "Adaptive, I wish i have a prof version which can enable profile tab. I'm running a personal version with profile tab unable.

This page from your link has worked for me on a few different thinkpads: http://blog.tiensivu.com/aaron/archives ... kpads.htmlTekken wrote:I also try ACPI file in NHC, but NHC doesn't work, it keep says, system not yet config. It's an add on for NHC, to allow fan control.
No need to go to the German page linked with underlined "here." Instead, download the zip right after the link, and follow the instructions below.
If that hasn't/doesn't work, you might try instead to use NHC only to undervolt, and then also use tpfancontrol to control the fan. This has been discussed in other sections, maybe even in the thread you linked, but may be hard to find in very long threads!
This won't solve your problem, but is a nice $1.30 (including shipping) way to charge usb devices: ebay item 250560219118. It says 1 amp, but it isn't, for example, it can't power a very hungry external hard drive. But it has been able to charge every device I've plugged into it. Don't worry about the 98% feedback, prob because of HK delays, or buy the same thing from another seller with better. I've bought from this seller before with no problem.

Tried that link before post and following their instruction still no luck.. As you can tell their comment at bottom of page that people have similar below can be solve.eyestrain wrote:This page from your link has worked for me on a few different thinkpads: http://blog.tiensivu.com/aaron/archives ... kpads.html

I don't believe charging my iphone thought usb port will cause that problem. I have proven with tpfancontrol while charging my iphone is about 1 degree C different. PCI show in tpfancontrol 62C in idle without iphone plugin. Problem tpfancontrol won't work correctly while NHC is running in. I can't run both prog in same time. Its some buggy in my WinXp. Maybe i need to reinstall winxp with T43 reinstall disk instead some oem disk with sp3.eyestrain wrote:If that hasn't/doesn't work, you might try instead to use NHC only to undervolt, and then also use tpfancontrol to control the fan. Re: Is it a way to cool down South Chip (T43)?
Sorry that neither fan control solution works for you. I didn't realize you tried both of them.
I have used Windows XP Home Install Disk and Nlite, and then was able to use NHC and fan control ACPI easily. With other model thinkpads.
I just don't like to charge things with my computer. Some other people feel the same way.
Although some people might not like to charge an expensive phone with a $1.30 charger either

You do need to UNcheck the box forit keep says, system not yet config.
after you have changed the .xml text files with your 7 digit model number with no dash, from the bottom of your computer (all CAPS like 26479KU ). Then recheck the box.Enable ACPI Control System
Just making sure you have done that. I don't think the instructions say to uncheck and then recheck the box, but I needed to.

Re: Is it a way to cool down South Chip (T43)?
Yes, sorry, that does look right.
And similar for lenovo.xml file also.
I hope a new install works, if you try that. Nlite is nice for removing unneeded parts of windows, and it is free. Though it shouldn't be needed if you don't want it. I have also easily gotten NHC ACPI fan control to work on a computer with XP Pro OEM, without nlite.
For me it's Linux undervolting and fan control that I can't make work at the same time.
