Best portable solution with great screen quality?
Best portable solution with great screen quality?
Hi, I have been looking around for a very portable solution with the highest resolution. What I am looking for is a bright crisp display (similar/or near to what I experienced with the t60p UXGA flexview screens). I previously purchased a t61p WUXGA but that was too heavy to take in my backpack each day and the screen quality was not comparable to the t60p. The screen was not very bright and I just had to sell it. So screen quality is really important for me.
I also want something I can take with me in my backpack each day to work.
I was looking at the x201s and noticed that the only option is a 12.1WXGA+ LED 3x3 WWAN screen (this is from the Australian lenovo website). How good is this screen? I also noticed people on ebay selling the x201s with a 12.1WXGA+ LED BackLight screen. Is that the same as the 12.1WXGA+ LED 3x3 WWAN screen? Is this the best screen available in the portable series that lenovo make? I did hear that the tablet series might be a better screen.
I am also considering past models like the x60 etc.
Any help most appreciated.
Cheers,
V

You're correct that the tablet screens are much better than the other Thinkpad screens. If you're interested in screen quality those are the ones that have it, though they are a bit heavier due to the tablet parts. Good Luck.

The other downside is that the tablet doesn't come with a WXGA+ screen.FredGarvin wrote:You're correct that the tablet screens are much better than the other Thinkpad screens. I don't quite understand why Lenovo don't improve their laptop screen quality when you have other companies like Dell that have amazing panels in their laptops.

FYI, I haven't seen any evidence that DELL panels are better than the comparable panels from Lenovo.voirin wrote:I don't quite understand why Lenovo don't improve their laptop screen quality when you have other companies like Dell that have amazing panels in their laptops.
They all use matte TN panels, probably from the same vendors and often same part numbers. Some are better than others. For instance, the 17" workstation panels tend to be far nicer, and the 15.4" WSXGA+ matte is widely accepted as being noticeably better in terms of colors and contrast than your average TN. Others - less so.

While you do, most people don't care about this issue and are willing to accept what they're given.voirin wrote:I don't quite understand why Lenovo don't improve their laptop screen quality when you have other companies like Dell that have amazing panels in their laptops.

It seems that modified X200 with AFFS LCD may be the best combination of great screen and portability today.

I do not have an X200 or a Flexview equipped Thinkpad but those pictures of the Flexview screen are G O R G E O U S!
I really wish there was a 14.1 WXGA+ LED Flexview panel that would fit into my T400!

According to BOE-Hydis website, AFFS LCD is available up to 13.3 inch, though it is WXGA. It has LED backlight so I've wondered whether these LCD's will be compatible with X30x.
Price seems to be around $190 from LCD vendors. It's too bad that the resolution is WXGA and not WSXGA, but I would not mind having a gorgeous display that is closer to having color truthfulness and also wide viewing angles. It's a bummer to live with bad LCD's on tp's.
If only BOE-hydis starts making 14.1" WSXGA AFFS or IPS displays...
