x301: 6 cell to 9 cell installation

#1 Post by siva » Mon Mar 15, 2010 3:42 pm

Hi everyone,

If I get an x301 with 6 cell, is it difficult to install the extra 3-cell battery in the DVD slot?

Can you actually purchase this special 3-cell battery from lenovo/ebay/amazon after you already have the x301 configured?

Thanks.

Not at all. Theres a small phillips head screw under the laptop that holds the DVD drive and battery in place. Its meant to bee user serviceable. You unscrew the single screw and then slide the DVD / battery out from the unit. I've got both and Im always swapping between the two and its no issue at all.

Yes. I had a CTO X301 and then bought the 3 cell bay battery. Just make sure you have the right FRU number.

Thank you so much for your reply. I'll get a 6-cell one, and if I'm not thrilled with its battery life, I'll take out the dvd and add another 3.

Thanks again!

For the record, undervolting + an SSD netted me a 30+ min increase in battery life. :D

How do you undervolt an SSD? I'd like to get 30 extra minutes by doing this as long as nothing is harmed.

I think you'll find they meant 'undervolting and an SSD' (you missed the + sign which is easily done).
