T410s panel quality
T410s panel quality
Hi, I'm looking around for a portable everyday laptop that I can carry in my backpack and am deciding between the x201s and the t410s.
Could anyone tell me how good the panel is on the t410s? On the Australian website they have two panel options for the t410s:
14.1 WXGA+ TFT, w/ LED Backlight
14.1 WXGA+ TFT Multi-touch, w/ LED Backlight
Which is the best available screen for this laptop? Is the multi-touch a better option?
I am basing my comparison of screen quality to those of the former flexview and dell latitude e6500 (which have amazing brightness and crispness). I previously purchased a t61p WUXGA and its brightness was terrible and caused me eye strain and I had to sell it.
Any insight most appreciated.
cheers,
V

Re: T410s panel quality
I just found out that the panel supports 300 nits. That is fantastic news!!! - on par with the E6500 - so its going to be a very bright screen that I can use outdoors. The T400 only has 200 nits. This is a massive jump in brightness. Just a little concerned about the contrast ration being 300:1.
Here's the specs from the tabooks.pdf:
14.1" (358mm) WXGA+ (1440x900) color, anti-glare, LED backlight, 300 nits, 16:10 aspect ratio, 300:1 contrast ratio
Still wondering about the multi-touch aspect of the screen/contrast ratio. Is it a better panel? Slightly concerned about smudging/damaging the screen with continued finger usage.

Re: T410s panel quality
If you don't need a touch screen, don't get the multi-touch screen. It's not a better panel, and if anything, the digitizer will reduce the contrast/quality a bit, and add some weight (and lots of extra $$$).

Re: T410s panel quality
I would not mistake brightness for quality. Contrast and viewing angles, which your T60p had an abundance of, are usually the two parts that add up to a good screen.

Well said!FredGarvin wrote:I would not mistake brightness for quality. Contrast and viewing angles, which your T60p had an abundance of, are usually the two parts that add up to a good screen.
What I've found particularly interesting about the displays on my new T510 and W510, is how the increased contrast over my T60 and T60p makes the non IPS display look so good. I knew it would make a difference I just didn't expect it to be this much. These new displays are a big improvement over the previous displays of last year.
Cheers...

Re: T410s panel quality
Generally I would agree with you. Excessive brightness = bad, not good, and for indoor viewing anything over 200nits is generally excessive. However in this case he specifically mentioned the intention to work outside, where no brightness is enough really.FredGarvin wrote:I would not mistake brightness for quality.
