Worth replacing CCFL?

#1 Post by yak » Tue Mar 16, 2010 7:54 pm

I have two T60, one with Samsung LCD, the other with TMD, both SXGA+. The Samsung seems less bright (both set to max brightness) and has a yellowish tint, best seen when comparing both displays using a blank white picture. I can't say how old are these displays as both systems were bought used and the Samsung LCD is a used replacement.

What can I do to improve the image on the Samsung model? I'm not looking for any wonders, just to get it to the quality of TMD one. Is the tint something normal for Samsung display or is it a sign of aging CCFL tube? I would like this to be the case as LCDparts offers these "super bright" replacement tubes which are rather cheap ($9.99) and I'm quite handy doing these kinds of work. But, will it help improve things?

Thanks,
yak

New CCF should improve brightness. Not quite sure the yellow tint would go away. Over the years the LCD makers have decided to make the color filters themselves to reduce cost. It could be turning yellow from the UV light.

Thanks for replying.

A new CCFL is on order. I'll report back how when I get it.

Or the previous owner was a smoker.
