How do I make 98 or 2k partition a 320 Gig drive?
How do I make 98 or 2k partition a 320 Gig drive?
I have a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 320 Gig hard drive for my TP240. It is now in my IBM PC300PL. The 300PL has the latest BIOS upgrade so it can handle much larger drives than this.
How do I force windows 98/2000 to partition it to 320 Gig not 64 or 128 gig?

Re: How do I make 98 or 2k partition a 320 Gig drive?
So, do you want to install Win98SE on a 320GB partition? I don't think you can do that. I don't have any real experience with this, but I think 137GB is the maximum partition size you can use with Win98SE. That shouldn't stop you from using the 320GB drive, you will just need to divide it up into smaller size partitions before you install.
With Win2K, you might be able to make it work. Again, I have not ever installed anything other than XP or Linux on larger drives.

No, not "I want to", "I am going to".
> I don't think you can do that.
Then quit thinking. It's obviously to hard for you anyway. (Sorry if I seem a little grouchy, but this mess has put me in a rotten mood and you're not helping.)

Then why answer? Are you trying to make me go postal or something?

MS has an FDisk upgrade that will double that. Still not enough.

Requires service pack 3. There must be something for 98se that doesn't take as long to download.
>Again, I have not ever installed anything other than XP or Linux on larger drives.
Apparently the only reason you answered this post was to make me feel better by giving me someone to take out my frustration on. It's working. Thank you. But just in case this gets worse - consider yourself clobbered.

Re: How do I make 98 or 2k partition a 320 Gig drive?
Cool down there bookworm. I think Neil gave you the correct answers. You cannot put Windows 98 on a 320Gb hard drive. Windows 98 is dead anyway. ... JDH

Unwittingly, but perhaps you are right. So, you are quite welcome.Bookworm wrote:Apparently the only reason you answered this post was to make me feel better by giving me someone to take out my frustration on. It's working. Thank you.
OK, it doesn't hurt much at this distance anyway. And I just love to see you get so worked up over this stuff.Bookworm wrote:But just in case this gets worse - consider yourself clobbered.

I AM CALM!!!

I've already confirmed that he did not.

People on the MSFN forums have, and are using it. Unfortunately they say to use the Ranish Partition Manager, but I tried it and it doesn't work. It also has the 128 Gig limit.

Then why do so many people use it?

I'll swing a little harder.

Re: How do I make 98 or 2k partition a 320 Gig drive?
So if you are so dead certain you are right and all of us are wrong, come back and show us step by step how it is done.Bookworm wrote:> Cool down there bookworm.
I AM CALM!!! <--- Not here !

I've already confirmed that he did not. <--- you cannot even put XP SP0 on a 320Gb drive, so he did give a correct answer

> Windows 98 is dead anyway. ... JDH
Then why do so many people use it? <--- I have over 1,000,000 points in Experts Exchange and in that huge forum, very few people use it. It was (next only to Windows ME) Microsoft's worst product.
I do not mind a legitimate discussion but your overheated berating of Neil is wrong in this forum. You overdid in here and now you have taken on a Administrator here. Be cautious, and don't get on the wrong side of me. ... JDH
