How about this 7k60HDD firmware update?

#1 Post by noonfun » Sun Feb 27, 2005 12:44 am

I just found this firmware update for 7k60 HDD (maybe too old for some of you guys):
http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.ws ... MIGR-41008

Release 9

* Version A5DA for HTS5480xxM9AT00 (HGST)
* Version A6DA for HTS726060M9AT00 (HGST)

My current firmware version of HTS726060M9AT00 is A6BA in Release 8.

Does anyone know the changes in this firmware update?

Or after your updated, did you notice any changes? E.g., is the noise of the HDD reduced?

One more question, how to update without a FDD?

Thanks!

From what I know about hard drives, the acoustics will not change given a firmware update. The only scenario where I would see a decrease would be excessive thrashing due to something wrong with how it patterns reading/writing to the disk. In any event, check the website or e-mail IBM regarding the changes it makes.

Personally, I'm in full agreement with the old mantra "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Just something to ponder before making any major changes.

if your 60gig is a 2003 drive and it is in a T41p/R50p then DO THE [censored] FIRMWARE update..!!! :twisted: :shock: :twisted:

there is a heads-up on my web site..
go therer and look for it then do the firmware update if you fall into the group..

reason: a glitch in the firmware AND the preload (if memory is right, the HDD protection system) would frequently cause a head crash..
BLOTTO HDD..!!

Thanks for your advice. I just thought my laptop is too noisy even when it's not doing anything.

Just now I applied the feature tools from Hitachi to enable AAM in the quietest mode, and the hard disk's seeking noise is greatly reduced. However, the system is still not silent when it's idle :(

Use feature tool to find the microcode level. Mine is MH40A6BA4I. So I guess that's A6BA version.

Everest can also find the revision to be MH40A6BA. (Storage -> ATA).
