Hi
I have a recently purchased 15" T61 (6466 5WG) with 2gb ram, running XP and everything is fully updated.
I am unable to use the fingerprint power on facility. When enrolling fingerprints it says there is not enough permanent memory, code -1009. My fingerprints are saved and can be used as windows logins, but not for power-on. Incidentally there are 21 empty fingerprint power-on slots reported.
it had a clean install from the R & R partition. I tried to wipe the f'print memory in the bios... & upgraded the bios, but it made no difference...
i first wondered if the f'print memory was corrupt... but that would suggest the bios would be too... unless it is a separate chip. Otherwise it seems likely that it is clogged up with previous fingerprints from other accounts & i can't clear it...
If this is the problem would the hardware maintenance diskette help with clearing the old ones from the fingerprint permanent memory chip (which is called … anyone?)
And which utility would do it?
Thanks loads for your attention

Re: fingerprint enrolling permanent memory
hi ellis...
I had a t61 sometime ago , with kinda simialr issues , and this is what I did:
a) boot and login to BIOS , with SUPERVISOR password
b) delete fingureprint ( delete everything = data etc)
c) save and exit
D) reboot and loginto BIOS again
E) switch off fingureprint (boot) option
f) save and exit and let it boot to windows
g) login fingureprint apps and DELETE ALL DATA and SETUP options
e) save and exit - do shutdown
g) power on and loginto BIOS with supervisor password
h) switch on Fingurprinter reader option
i) save exit anbd let it boot up into windows
j) create /REGISTER new fingures and at first one u save it will ask you"IF YOU WANT "WINDOWS LOGIN" and also ASK U for "POWER ON OPTION" - say yes to both ( if it dont , i would panic , you can always go into SETTINGS and check those options there.
k) save and exit ......... and shutdown
l) reboot , and you should first see the request for FINGUREPRINT option
ALSO >> as a side note , I would UNINSTALL anything like THINKVANTAGE CLIENT SECURITY etc ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, as me personally I think TV apps (apart from pwoermanager) rest of them is not much use - they just chew up proc. time and speed!!
hope this helps...>sorry for typos<

Re: fingerprint enrolling permanent memory
hi,
thanks for your long reply and walkthrough.
unfortunately it didn't resolve the problem.
any further suggestions would be appreciated & whether the hardware maintenance diskette has anything of value
cheers to all

Can't help you with the FPR, but the HMD will not do anything for you in this case.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
