One last hardware driver after install

#1 Post by dwilsonfl » Tue Mar 23, 2010 9:52 am

Getting my X41 ready to put in the marketplace (along with my X40 to fund a move upstream) band reinstalled XP Pro but since I do not have the disks I used a Dell one I have. Everything has gone smoothly, activated it and finally got all the IBM drivers downloaded and installed. Except for one.

When I look at Control panel it still shows one Unknown device. When I look at its properties it says that it is located at PCI bus 0, device 30, function 2

any ideas as to what it is?

Just of the top of my head (since I don't have my X41 here at school); do you have the PM driver on already? I'm going to assume that you already have the ethernet, modem drivers on already.

If you don't have an answer by then, I'll check my X41 when I get home.

Oh; what about Bluetooth?

OK, here's the list of all the devices in my X41's "Device Manager":

*Batteries
*Bluetooth Devices
*Computer
*Disk Drives
*Display Adapters
*IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
*Infrared devices
*Keyboards
*Mice and other pointing devices
*Modems
*Monitors
*Network adapters
*PCMCIA adapters
*Processors
*Secure Digital host controllers
*SM Driver
*Sound, video and game controllers
*System devices
*Universal Serial Bus controllers

There you go; in order. I think the only thing that this machine doesn't have is the FP reader.

Thanks.

Looks like I don't have the "SM" driver, guess that's the Intel Chipset software.

I'll try that. Maybe I'll be able to list the X41 today.

Thanks again,

David

Hmm...didn't fix it. Ran the Intel website's driver scan and it didn't find anything either. Curious. laptop runs great but I hate that yellow mark in the device list.

I know what you mean. I've had machines like that before and I end up just kind of "picking at it" till I eventually figure it out!

As an aside; I gained a new appreciation for my X41 last night when I was messing around with my daughter's (to be) new machine (X30), so I put her current X20, the X30 and the X41 side by side. I was amazed at how much more compact that X41 is. With the maxed out RAM, and SSD in it, it's pretty snappy. I guess I'll keep it for a while....since I can't afford to run out and get an X300 anyway!

Well, I tried uninstalling the "Unknown device", and rebooted. Windows found a new device "Multimedia audio" but couldn't install it. I downloaded and installed the audio drivers again and no "unknown devices" now. But no SM either. ????

I guess I'll give it one more day and then off to eBay or the forum market place
