Rob the point is when IBM was still around only IBM had outlets. IBM isnt even around anymore in notebooks so therefore IMO to call oneself an IBM outlet is BS. I guess if someone can sell someone else sand in a desert then they must be a good business. If I were Lenovo, the owner of the IBM Thinkpad brand. or even IBM in its present form, I would be outraged.

I mean does someone selling Ford vehicles have the right to call themself the Ford factory outlet?

File a dispute with PayPal and your credit card company, if possible. Yesterday. Then escalate it to a claim.

Just file a claim with Paypal and tell them the Seller / Merchant is committing fraud by sending a used product that is not the SPECs advertized.

Return shipping burden on you only APPLIES if they SENT you what you ordered not something else. And its quite clear that they advertised the UXGA model.

I had similar drama with the seller in the NY/NJ area for my thinkpad. I just filed and this guy kept DELAYING me almost upto the 90 day limit. Then I threatened to ESCALATE a CLAIM with Paypal and call my lawyer.

He finally agreed to my terms.

Barring the Flexview I see nothing special about the machine especially for the priced asked. You can get a new W500 with a good screen for what they ask. Only a fool would buy from them esp with the story of what the OP went through.

Did any T60 come with a 500GB hard drive? According to Lenovo specs, the largest was a 120 GB disk.

They can easily put a 500GB HDD in. Same for the RAM. Actually I think the upgrades depend on the BIOS and the planar. Anyone considering this machine should check the BIOS release notes and see if about the planar revision. As far as I know I thought the T61 was the first model to be able to go to 8GB of RAM.

When they say "manufactuer refurbished" we all know Lenovo does not do this kind of work and IBM has their own business selling TPs coming out of corporate leases and refurbished by them or a selected contractor. Its misleading for the eBay seller to implay all this but that is my own opinion.

Okay - emailed this to ibmfactoryoutlet about the 8GB T60p:

"Dear ibmfactoryoutlet,

T60p can only use 3GB of ram due to the limitations of the chipset on the motherboard. It can't use 8GB of ram (not even all 4GB!). This is a known fact, so it would be best to rectify this asap to avoid confusion".

..in which they replied...

"Hi it works with 8GB just fine thank you".

Maybe I should of taken more care and time on the email I sent, but I would just hate to see some poor unsuspecting soul committing themselves to this item.
Anyone else care to give a try?

To post my 2 cents on this, as a long time and heavy ebay buyer, I have noticed something in the past few months, ebay is finding in favor of buyers on almost all disputes, even when the buyer is in the wrong.

I think the theory is that ebay is becoming even more greedy, they know sellers have nowhere else to go, but buyers can go to amazon, newegg, etc. for many things, and ebay wants that business, so they are kissing buyer's butts on disputes, and so this buyer need not worry about the dispute process, once he elevates his case, he will win, even in a different type of case where the product was as represented, ebay is pretty much always siding with buyers currently.

It reminds me of the Nancy Grace show, the suspect is ALWAYS guilty, no trial is needed!

I also bought the same type of T60p from the same seller.
When I got it, it had several clumps of dead pixels on the screen. And after two days, one more dead pixel arrived. I sent it back and today when I called them ( had been waiting for 3 weeks for numerous issues) they said they replaced the screen and sent it out couple of days ago.

Reading this thread here makes me doubt if I will get a proper replacement. They could as well send back some crap.

In my opinion, you should only buy a ThinkPad from that seller if you want a ThinkPad that you can fix up. Think of all the ThinkPads that you'll be "saving". Those poor ThinkPads .

It seems that a lot of you are confused on the 8GB T60p machine, so I'll offer an explanation. First off, he uses a 14" T61p mobo transplanted to a T60p 15" cage. This is not new. A member has attempted this before. This explains why he lists the graphic card as the T61p's graphic card. Second, this enables that laptop to use 8GB of RAM. This is not a T60 using 8GB of RAM, it's a T61p using 8GB of RAM, which is normal.
As an aside, I do find it sad that more knowledgeable members don't offer you all an explanation in this thread, letting people run wild with confusion.
And no, I'm not affliated with the seller. In fact, I think that is the biggest ripoff of the century. For that kind of money I rather buy the Sony Vaio Z, a 13" laptop with 1080p screen, core i7 and GTX 335M.

Ah, it seems that you're right. Sorry for not reading carefully. The seller seems to have thought that because Win7 is able to see all the RAM installed that it will be usable (Windows has been able to see all the RAM installed since Vista SP1, but they are not all usable). Certainly not the case, since 945GM chipset can only utilize 3gb as others have pointed out.

The Machine I am writing this message on was purchased from this same ebay seller!!

The item came sealed in a IBM box with a IBM service sheet stating that the MOBO was changed do to video issues. I also have the pre-refurb SN and the post-refurb SN. One says it has no warranty and the other says it has 90 days warranty from the date that he shipped me the pc.. I also got a 3 year warranty from a 3rd party.

all information on the sheets match the tags on the pc..

Sorry for your bad deals with him... but maybe its IBM sending the crappy goods to him. I purchased a few Ibm LASER printers last year from a certified reseller and 3 of the 5 did not print worth a poop... it was like some one put dents in the drum. all 5 units had IBM seals on the boxes... so to me it looked like some one got lazy and just started cleaning the case of the printers and sticking them back in the box with a refurbed seal!! The seller did make good on the purchase but gave me a hard time keept telling me I cant see 3 out of 5 being bad from the factory!!
