Cmos backup battery socket polarity in Thinkpad X20

#1 Post by hl828 » Thu Mar 25, 2010 1:22 pm

Hello,

please give the close-up picture of the Cmos backup battery socket in the memory slot so I can know the polarity of the socket (the Cmos battery on my X20 is missing). Thanks very much for your help!

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

I don't have an X2 system with me at the moment but if nobody else can post a (small) picture of one, then I'll get one up here later tonight. I did a quick web search and could not find a proper image.

What you are looking for is an FRU 02K6715 battery. They usually run about $5 on eBay. There are definitely two styles of battery connectors being used in Thinkpads and they are exactly opposite in polarity. The physical dimensions of the connectors are different so I don't think that you could actually plug in the wrong one.

Hello,

The Cmos battery on my old X20 is missing so I don't have the original connector plug, I do have 2 Cmoss batteries around but not sure they have right polarity and for Thinkpad. I did search the internet and manuals before posting here, hoping some members with X20 to X24 can help me. I just want to see where the Red wire go to which side of the socket on the motherboard of the X20. Thanks for helping me!

Sorry for the delay but I was interrupted with some other projects... Here are two photos from one of my X22 systems. The X20 should have the same arrangement for the CMOS battery as they use the same FRU.

The first is an overall picture showing the open memory bay. The "back" of the laptop is "up". The positive (red) wire is on the left, the negative (black) wire is on the right.

Hi,

I know you are busy helping every body so I am waiting patiently.

I really appreciate very much of your instruction, it is clear and precise especially with the note on the picture. I was able to install the cmos battery rather fast and everything is OK now.

"X22 .. red on the left"
Thanks again for your wonderful help!
