Stupid adventure with Lenovo Outlet
In recent days I have learned many things I do not like about Lenovo.I ordered a slim 90 watt adaptor from the outlet. After it shipped I learned a signature would be required. Ok I thought, I can get my neighbor to sign for it. Then I learned that wouldn't work. Lenovo doesn't allow that. I have to sign for it. What about changing the shipping address? Can not do that either. It has to be the same as the billing address used on the credit card. But.... they say call my credit card company and add the address to it? OK, let me get this straight, I add my work address to my credit card "bill to" address? Never heard of that, so I call my bank. They have never heard of it either and wouldn't do it if I asked them too. So what to do? Take a day off of work. Cool, might as well, kind of need a mental health day anyway.
The package arrives, I open it and it is incomplete! They didn't include all the adaptor tips that were to come with it or the carring case. I am not talking about any special tips, just the 3 that come with it. Well I can do an RMA. ship it back. (and pay a 15% restock fee) This is because they won't send out the tips they owe me. Oh yeah and then I can take another day off just to sign for them. How do these people sell anything? I am not a big buyer of things over the internet, I don't even have a pay pal account. This whole process seems just too stupid. Does anyone have a idea of how I should proceed?

I am trying to picture what 'tips' you are referring to. Is this an AC/DC combo adapter? Link to it at the outlet?
Edit: OK got it. You can also order just the tips ... and you don't have to sign for them.

yeah I could do that. Still have the stupid shipping rule, not to mention I already paid for the tips once. However that is an option.
Update: I tested the unit with the 20 volt tip. There is an interment short in the cable. The whole thing has to go back.

Sorry to hear that you had to go through hoops and lose a day off work! But I had a couple of similar experiences with other companies that seemed to require "billing address must be same as shipping address". The solution was simple. It just required a request to my credit card company to "add" a secondary address as a VALID address. My CC company is Mastercard. They accommodated my request via their online "feedback" system.Microspeed wrote:..What about changing the shipping address? Can not do that either. Like Newegg back in the day, Lenovo states they will only ship to a billing address, or a second alternate address on file with the card issuer. As some know, this can kill an order if a retailer uses a carrier that cannot ship to your primary billing address. Those who use USPS PO Boxes, have untrustworthy neighbors or with other reasons they wish to receive packages elsewhere than where they receive mail run into this. Keep in mind, a billing address is an address where your card statement and other financial correspondence will also go. Some have good reason for these to be separate locations.
I recently ran into this with Lenovo because I have a PO Box and prefer to get packages there when I can. However, they ship via UPS without carrier conversion. When they processed my order, they saw the discrepancy, halted it and sent me an email. It explained the policy with the instruction that I address the problem by requesting my card issuer add an alternate street address to the card's file for UPS delivery. That and/or calling or emailing them.
Unlike the stated policy in the email, I called and explained I have a PO Box, and they simply asked for a secondary street address which I gave over the phone. I didn't have to call the bank to add that address. It was like the policy didn't exist.
Maybe I encountered a good rep, but I suppose it's best to call them and explain the situation than accept the email at face value.
Of course, I don't know if every thing's in that box yet. Let's see how my luck holds out.
EDIT: All went well.
