A22m power on failure...again :(
Well I posted here before about this exact same thing... and it was suggested that the CMOS battery was to blame. After replacing the CMOS battery my A22m has run for months without any problems...however the problem has returned again. I removed the CMOS battery and the boot failure still persists. When depressing the power button all LEDs illuminate for a second the laptop makes that depressing "reading floppy drive" noise for a second and promptly shuts off.
Any thoughts?
Much thanks,
Jason

Just to give everyone an update... my A22m still has no CMOS battery in it and is giving the same sort of errors. Sometimes it will power on, sometimes it won't. When I press the power button several times in a row and pull the power cord out all the lights flash like 12 times and then it just stops.
This sucks.
This sucks.

at the end of my rope...
Okay.. here's the situation. I replaced the CMOS battery on my a22m. This has corrected the error messages on boot / as well as the BIOS time. The last step I took was re-seating the system processor but with no luck. The computer still starts sometimes...and others the LEDs just flash.
It's really odd...and after attemping to start the system upon removal of the power adapter the LEDs start flashing over & over and the computer makes that floppy disk type noise. If you pull the battery out at that point it stops (obviously) but when the batter is inserted the flashing begins again. Sometimes the computer starts up and gives no problems (I'm typing on it now).
What do I do? I love my ThinkPad but need it to work :\

Those are the classic signs of motherboard failure that many of us with the A2x series have experienced, I'm afraid. I've read somewhere it's a common problem of one or two chips that have to do with power management failing on the motherboard. I have an A22m with the same symptoms, nothing I did helped. The cheapest price I've found on a replacement mobo is $350, and since you can buy an A22m on eBay for that amount, it hardly seems worth fixing. Maybe someone here knows of a place to buy a replacement mobo at a better price? Or a place that will repair the mobo at a decent price? 'Cause I love that A22m, too, and hate to see it go to waste.
