Two different product ID's?

#1 Post by jiopsi » Fri Mar 26, 2010 5:55 pm

I have had about 10 different Thinkpads in past, but this was the first one where NHC didn't work straight away with ACPI script and product ID from bottom. I got it work finally when I checked the model number from NHC.

Product ID from bottom 1706W3Q and model number from NHC 42W7667.

What was different this time?
T40 -> T40 -> T40 -> T41 -> X40 -> X41 -> T40 -> X60 -> X30 -> R40 -> T61

There isn't model number in BIOS. System Unit Serial Number is 42W7667xxxxxxxxx, also CPUz says model is 42W7667.

Well, that's the problem then. You need to reprogram the BIOS so that 1706W3Q replaces 42W7667. Do a forum search for 'HMD'.

I can't find HMD program? Can it be done from USB-stick acting like USB-floppydrive?

It's a diskette, and I can't discuss how to get it on this forum. It is a proprietary tool reserved for Lenovo technicians or third party repair center partners. So, you are on your own as far as locating it.

Found it, but it won't extract to a USB stick, and I don't want to buy floppydrive. Is there problems if I leave it as it is?

No problem other than the NHC issue you mentioned and the fact that Lenovo system update would not work in that case since it uses the BIOS machine type/model as well. .
