This is a 2687-D4U, with the dreaded ATI x300 video processor.
In use as usual a week or so ago, the screen went dead. I could get it working again by doing a Fn/F4 but over a coruse of the day the screen would remain on for steadily decreasing lengths of time, finally down to about 60 seconds.
I am working in China and brought it to Lenovo (this is still under warranty) where it has been for 11 days at this point. I THINK they have changed the invertor and the backlight with no results (perhaps it is now staying on longer, but I cannot be sure as language is an obstacle).
It does appear to power an external monitor and I THINK that when the screen was dark and they plugged in an external monitor, the screen on the laptop came on.
I don't think they have a clue what they are doing at this point so I am thinking of waiting to get back to the US in a month and going with the reliable ( in my experience) EZServe for a repair.
Any thoughts

Re: T43 with screen outage
Get the machine back and hope for the best...
I doubt that they had changed the CCFL, they would've flipped the entire screen if that was the problem.
BTW, X300 is highly unlikely to fail in my experience ( a couple of hundred T43 units), so I'd be placing my bets on a screen that needs attention, or more likely, replacement.
Good luck.

Re: T43 with screen outage
Lenovo came through just as I was going to retrieve the machine; according to the parts list they replaced the LCD panel, the LCD ribbon cable and the modem (!).
It is a relief to be back on the Flexview screen and I am afraid a replacement/upgrade will have a difficult time matching the screen (I had been borrowing an x60 for two weeks.
