I have only used the M$ firewall since I had my X200s (previously used PCTools free firewall). Was using Avast for anti virus, but have recently switched to Microsoft Security Essentials (seems a bit slow when doing a quick or full scan, but no problems with real time scanning).
X220 : Premium HD : Core i7-2640M : 8GB : 256GB Samsung 850 Pro : WWAN : Intel AC7260 : Mini Dock Series 3 with USB 3.0 : ThinkPad USB keyboard : 2 x HP LP2475w : Win 10 64bit

X200s : WXGA (LED) : C2D SL9600 : 4GB : 256GB Samsung 830 : WWAN : Intel AC7260 : Broadcom Crystal HD : UltraBase : Win 10 64bit

I did a test few days ago, on a different machine, but results should still be similar, C2D T6570, SSD, 3GB, Windows 7 Pro.

During boot, till cpu became idle CPU Time for MSE was just over 2 minutes. for AVG it was just over 30 seconds. I replaced MSE with avg and my laptop seems to be running cooler.

Another app that is horrible for a notebook is Live Mesh. it was moronic how much CPU it used even while everything was synced. moved to Dropbox with Symbolic links and haven't looked back.
