#1 Post by ludu35 » Fri Apr 02, 2010 5:06 pm

Hi
Lenovo Vista Business 64 recovery DVD devided hard drive into 3 weird partitions. Is Lenovo Windows 7 doing the same thing too? OR it is just ONE big partition like XP?
Please advise, thanks

I put a new hard drive in my T61p and installed Windows 7 Pro 64-bit from a Microsoft package because Lenovo had / has no Windows 7 recovery CD's for my model.

Now the Microsoft Windows 7 install leaves 2 partitions: one Windows 7 wants (< 1Gb) and one for everything else.

So then I surmise that your preload has (1) a Lenovo recovery partition (normal for IBM / Lenovo); (2) the very small Windows 7 partition; and (3) everything else. ... JDH

Should be 3 if you read the Lenovo site. W7, Bit locker part, and Recovery. Dont mess with them.

Pro does not have Bitlocker, so I don't have that one. But I do agree with not messing with them. ... JDH

My bad. But if you peruse the Lenovo technical support site there is a reading explaining why your HDD is partitioned the way it is and it goes into detail to explain it is provisioned for BitLocker. I beleive the setup takes into account potential upgrade to Ultimate as a matter of covenience and the collusive upgrade strategy between Mister Softee and the manaufacturers to get you the customer to shell out more pesos.

My T61p came with Vista Business. I purchased a new hard drive and a retail (supported) license for Windows 7 Pro. My comments, then, were from my own observations. Lenovo could not / would not supply with a Windows 7 Upgrade. So I have a non-Lenovo machine now. ... JDH
