Performance difference betw FireGL on T42p and T43p

#1 Post by davidlg16 » Mon Feb 28, 2005 4:21 am

Anyone know anything regarding the performance difference between these two graphics cards?

T43P
Graphics ATI® MOBILITY™ FireGL™ V3200 / PCI Express x16 / 128MB GDDR1 memory

vs.

T42P
ATI® Mobility™ FireGL™ T2 / AGP 4X / 128MB DDR1 / OpenGL® support

Thanks in advance for any input :)

I don't think there are any major differences between the two except for the interface (AGP versus PCIe). I believe both are RV350 derived and should offer comparable performance.

Someone recently posted benchmarks in this forum that showed the T43p graphics to be about 25% faster than the T42p graphics. I coundn't find the post, but I'm certain it is there.

Yes, there is a difference. The T43p will get worse battery life, it's more expensive, and it's not yet available.

The graphics chipset isn't the only thing that's changed. The T43 should benefit almost linearly from the move to the 533MHz FSB and faster DDR2 RAM, (reports of around 15-25% overall sound about right to me), but as was mentioned, Intel and IBM have admitted that this comes at the expense of battery life.

T42 (2374-3VU): 1.7GHz/512MB, 14.1"SXGA+, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.

wow I'd say 15~25% is a pretty noticeable difference.

I'd definitely prefer the T43pover T42p if that's the case since it comes with 9cell anyway?

I'm not so certain about the true performance boost beside the graphics.
