ID of my computer

#1 Post by Novice42R » Tue Apr 06, 2010 7:15 am

I have just received a IBM Thinkpad through my work. The technician made sure I got a fully functional unit. It was wiped when I got it but since then I have loaded Windows 7 and upgraded part of the memory. I would like to upgrade this computer before I add any additional software but I do not know what it has now and what I would need to upgrade. I use computers every day in my work and at home but I am not real good at the technical part. Is there a place that can get help with determining what I have and what I need? It is a 2374Y38.

Welcome to the forums!

I went to Lenovo's website and keyed in a search for 2374-Y38. This is what appeared: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ry=2374Y38

See if that is any help.

You can update that laptop with RAM up to 2GB (2 x 1GB 200-pin PC2700 SODIMM).
It can take ATA/IDE/EIDE/PATA (all the same) 2.5" hard disk up to max. 320GB. Any SATA disks will NOT work!
Other than that, there's not much you can do.

To get the feeling for the 'insides', download this manual: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-46464
