t42 (ati9000) and fullHD (1920x1080)??

#1 Post by schmaud » Tue Apr 06, 2010 1:23 pm

Hi,

Is there any way to drive a FullHD beamer ( 1920x1080) with a t41 with a radean 9000?
I checked presentation director, and the windows tool, but the resolution is not listet.

Is this combination imposible, or do I have just to update some drivers?

Does anyone got experience with this combination? Is the VGA signal still decent at such resolutions?

I want touse this to view digital pictures, so weather the GPU can handle full HD movies is not a concern.

cheers

They talk about
Integrated dual-channel LVDS, with support for QXGA resolutions (2048x1536)
but i think that is for the internal LCD only.

My t41 with the 7500 will apparently support QXGA, so your should work. Try setting it with presentation driector, or get a new version of PD and see if it supports it.

The big problem is the OS and not the hardware. Best is to use WindowsXP MCE, Vista or Windows7. WindowsXP doesn't have the complement of wide screen resolutions and will require a monitor driver for your TV. Some makes such as Viewsonic provide monitor driver for their TVs.

Connection is via a docking station and a DVI-HDMI cable or an adapter plus a HDMI cable.

I am using a T43p and Windows7 for slide show. It support our 1080p TV no problem. Software is a freeware called XnView.

Thanks!
Some how I am not sure if this is the right answer: One desktop at work runs with a 1920*1080 screen without additional drivers for the screen.

But I will check weather the projectors I am considering come with a monitor driver.

cheers

Pure DVI monitors will work fine via the docking station, even with WindowsXP. The issues is with HDMI inputs on TVs, due to the over scan built in. DVI has no over scan. I had a 1366x768 (native resolution) 720p Phillips TV that never worked right with XP. I was forced to use it at 1280x640 with a missing band around the edge. Win7 detected it correctly and worked fine. There is really no way to know how the over scan work in each TV chipset until you plug it in and see if it works.

OK, I must have written this misleading:

- I want to connect the t41 to a projector, not a TV
- I do not see how I can set the VGA out of teh system to 1920x1080. it is neither an option in presentation director, nor does it show up in Win XP if I check the available modi

Next action will be trying the omega drivers.

Basically I did not even come to the point where I have to worry about overscan.

cheers

This is a 1080p projector with VGA input? Don't 1080p anything use HDMI?

1080p can use component also, but most often HDMI or DVI.

VGA maximum output is QXGA (2048×1536).

I think you have to distinguish 1080p movie material and just 1920x1080 computer output.
the movie likely will require HDCP and with this some digital port.
However I want to use it to show digital pictures, I took them, so I see no point why some software should make fuse about copy protection.

At work we use a 1920x1080 screen via vga. On my X60s the mode is listed in the windows software ( the stuff what shows uo when you right click on the desktop). Just on the T41 the mode is not listed, just 4:3 ones.

Both your X60s and T42 are running WindowsXP? The T41/T42 video driver for WindowsXP is just too old to include these newer resolutions. I am using a slightly newer T43 with Windows7 and it support 1080p ok.

Funny, I had my old X23 driving a widescreen 1440x900 LCD display very fine? It was with ATI drivers that I got from IBM site.

different solution :-)

#13 Post by schmaud » Sun Apr 11, 2010 1:44 am

Hi,

thanks for all the input. I checked, and mostlikely a new driver would have solved it, but I found a different solution:
I found a sxga+ projector (or is beamer the correct english term?), and there I can just mirror the display.

cheers
