ThinkPad X22 CRC 0175

#1 Post by jimmy274 » Tue Apr 06, 2010 5:58 pm

Hi all!
I have a chance to to buy ThinkPad X22 2660-PU2 at a very low price, but it has a dead hdd and 0175 BAD CRC error. Now, I've seen this error a million times and it was mostly on T20/T21/T22, some people claim that A2x are much more prone to it. Anyway I'm totally familiar with it on these systems. What puzzles me is that no one seems to mention it on an X2x series.
I did some minor research and I've seen that the most frequent reason for this error on X2x series is a bad CMOS battery; some have reported that bad hdd may cause it as well. What I want to ask is - Did anyone have this error on a X2x? Has anyone solved it? Is it the same error that T2x have, thus being probably not solvable by simply changing the CMOS battery?
Ray? Anyone?
Best regards,

Ivan

This is caused by a bit error in the most commonly A2x serial EEPROM. Sometime changing it doesn't cure it. Then it could be in the BIOS flash chip. Usually the MB is scrap.

I'd stay away unless you're up to flashing the EEPROM.

In most cases that I've seen this happens when someone tries to remove the SVP and doesn't know quite know what to do...
