max out r40 2681 f9u

Hey guys, quite a forum here!!!
I've inherited an old Thinkpad R40, with an Intel 2.00 ghz Mobil Pentium 4-M processor.
From the searching I've done, I THINK I can put 2 gigs of ddr memory in it. Correct?
Also, what's the max processor I can put in it? And of course, if any of you guys have a larger processor than I have, let me know.
And....I currently only have a wireless b. With the bios upgrade, can I at least go wireless g? If so, I'd love to know what to get, and if any of you guys have one for sale.
I also have a sound issue, but I'm pretty sure it's hardware related. All drivers seem to be installed correctly, but I get no sound. But could easily be something silly I don't know about thinkpads....the mute button doesn't seem to do anything. Maybe an IBM utility thing.
Thanks in advance ror any advice.

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, you can go up to 2GB PC2100 or 2700 DDR RAM (PC 266 or 333).

You can go up to 2.6 Ghz P4M CPU, but you will have one VERY hot machine. In my experience, 2.0 is about right for that baby.

Your machine will take any IBM (Atheros-chipped) b/g or a/b/g mini-PCI card, feel free to drop me a PM if you decide to upgrade.

Audio driver:

After the download, you must go into C>Drivers>Win>Audio and run the setup file from there.

Hope this helps.
