Upgrading from T60 14,1"SXGA+ to a better screen and machine

#1 Post by venro » Sat Apr 10, 2010 6:01 pm

Hi,

I'm searching for a better machine. Currently I'm using T60 T2500 with SXGA+ 14,1" panel.
Most important is the space/resolution, the more the better. And, of course, better quality of the picture.

From what I've read my screen supposedly is the worst of all (nice to know after buying :) )

And now I really don't know which one would do the trick (all 15,4"):

ThinkPad R61 1680x1050 (probably the best 15,4" wsxga+ panels in thinkpad series, is that true?)
ThinkPad Z61p 1920x1200 (i've heard brightness isn't very good)
HP nw8440 1920x1200 (i know, it's not a Thinkpad, but does HP really put WVA panel in it?)

If you have some other suggestions (in the same price category) I would be very thankful :)

My advice would be to get a T500, W500 or R500 with a WSXGA+ LCD.

Z61p is a fine machine but you won't see much of a difference in speed. The same goes for R61.

HPs are OK, but LCDs are a piece of garbage.

My $0.02 only...

I recently sold an HP nc8430 with the 15.4" WSXGA+ LCD. Compared to a T60 FlexView that I owned, the brightness was noticeably better, horizontal viewing angles were just a bit less, but vertical angles were much worse. Hope that helps.
