laptop battery

#1 Post by wetnine » Thu Jun 10, 2004 2:01 pm

Is it better for not hooking up the battery to the laptop when using the AC power? Would this make the battery life longer?

thx

Heat damages Li-Ion batteries. When you leave them in a notebook, the heat from adjacent devices will reduce the life of your battery.

It's best to recharge the battery only when it's less than 80% charged and to leave it in the notebook until it is fully recharged. Then take it out and store it in a cool place.

Don't store a fully charged battery

The batteryuniversity site recommends against storing a fully charged battery. To optimize Li-ion battery's life, they recommend storing at a 40% charge.

There are two schools of thought about batteries:

1) Save the battery at all costs - it's expensive!

and

2) Oh no, the power went off just as I finished this project that's due in the morning, and I didn't save it! Wish I'd had the battery in...

Only you can decide which is more important to you.

Add to that, the remembering to take the battery off, put it on, where is it?, etc. For me, DEFINITELY not worth WHATEVER marginal increase in life of the battery. ENJOY YOUR TPAD, and DON'T WORRY!!! :P

I thought I read somewhere once that operating a Thinpad on AC without the battery in place could damage the machine itself. Probably fiction, but perhaps someone knows if there is any truth in this?

I've run my A21p for 3-1/2 years with the battey removed 99.5% of the time. Never had a problem with the A21p and the battery still holds about 70% of full charge.

Yes, it would not make any problem with you Pad without the battery when you are using the Pad.
