aging T40 display issue

#1 Post by t40rocks » Tue Apr 13, 2010 1:50 pm

Hello) this is my first post.. need your advice guys & girls..

My T40's display recently started to go pink when on battery or after startup.. pretty common thing with these :( I am almost sure this is inverter issue and I already ordered one...

And even worst - display now turns itself off when on high brightness so I have to lower it now to -3 (was -2 yesterday). When on high brightness there is a buzz comming from inverter and display turns off..

anyways.. I was wondering can bad battery somehow damage the inverter? mine is on 10% health( have to replace it I know.. but can it kill the inverter?? before I replace inverter with good one - should I order a replacement battery? :(

Thanks in advance !

My screen has been exhibiting similar problems lately. T43

If I leave it idle, it starts to dim. If I come back after it has been black for power saving, itstarts up red to pink to normal in just a few seconds. Lately, it can take up to ten minutes to go from black to normal when I first start it up or bring it out of hibernation. The transition is almost instant, it just sits as black for a really long time.

Today, it was black and not switching. I liked closely, and I could see the faint outlines o the login dialog box. It's on but it is extremely dim and unusable.

Is this problem similar to the user above? Is it perhaps time to replace this old laptop? (if I have to buy something and do some mechanical work to fix the screen I'll probably just buy a new computer instead since I got this one in 2005 and already replaced the fan and planned to buy a new computer within the next three months)

or is the fix extremely simple?

If I ought to get a new comp, any advice on something with a similar feel as the t43? Or, I was thinking of getting a tablet, but still don't know of any good ones (was thinking that Microsoft was working on one but haven't heard anything lately) extra points if the recommendation doesn't have the fan issues the t43 had, or any other common problems.

Thank you all. I'm forced to write this on my iPhone, so excuse typos.

You too need to have the CCFL replaced.
This company can do it for you: http://www.moniserv.com/doc/pricelist.htm
