Question on TP 'sleeves' (carry cases)

#1 Post by sojourner » Sun Apr 18, 2010 8:01 am

I've always used the neoprene 'flap under strap' type carry cases (protective sleeve, pouch etc.). Need to pickup one for a recently aquired X60 and wondered about zipper type sleeves. Seems that design might be nicer in some ways but there's concern about the zipper being abrasive on the sides and corners of the laptop.

Anyone with experience with these and can comment?

I prefer sleeves that zipper fully open so there is no scratch opportunity. The Zeroshock III is a good example of this type.

Thank you, Harry, for the link. The sleeve looks very good . Do you know whether one can fit there X61 with 8-Cell battery. I bough one sleeve for my X61s some time ago and it is just usable with 4-cell.

You need to measure the X61 with the battery and compare it to the inside dimensions of the sleeve for a proper fit.

I have a Booq Vyper for my X60s that I got for about $12 on eBay. It's terrific. Moderate hardshell woven nylon, 2 zipppers. There are two sizes that fit the X60s, I believe they are XS and XXS. In one the X60s will fit with either battery, in the smaller one only the 4cell battery fits. It's light and very protective.

I ended up buying this case for $9.69 from 'beauty_ping'
http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid ... for+HP+IBM

This case is a two zipper design. Arrived fairly quickly from Asia (2+ weeks). It works well with the 4-cell battery, has somewhat thin padding so it's not designed for extreme shock protection, has a great look and overall really like it. With 8-cell battery it's a little tricky because the fit width wise is real close. Turns out the zipper may lightly rub against the battery pack. That's not an issue for me but may be for other 8-cell users.

Lastly, length wise; there's a little extra room, approx. 1-1/8" (2.8cm) so if you'd like to throw in a thumb drive or other small device it can accomodate it.

Yes, yes, yes!

I have two that accommodate my T61 and they're beautiful. A fully lined semi-rigid shell of ballistic nylon. I only wish they still made them for non-Mac laptops (some mac sizes work, though). When last I contacted them, Booq said they plan on phasing out the Vyper for the Taipan softsleeves that just look like them, so get one while you can. If they are OOS, eBay, or resellers, are the only places to go until Booq comes to their senses.

Here's the current lineup (Not including the older models with different dimensions which still popup elsewhere):
