Code issue on my x200s an MS nor IBM can help

#1 Post by watchinggoodman » Mon Apr 19, 2010 1:45 pm

I recently purchased a x200s with Windows Pro7 (5th Thinkpad I've owned) . Out of the box I have had a random internet “link” connection problem that neither IBM or Microsoft have been able or willing to resolve.

In short, some links are “hot” and active (I can navigate to the link) others are “cold, “ I click on them and nothing happens.

Examples:
1) If you sent me an email with an embedded link, the link may or may not work.

Below is the email Bill Morrow send me when I registered with this forum.

Notice the link at the bottom of the email http://www.thinkpads.com [/color]. My computer will not allow me to navigate to this link from my email account. I have to physically type it into the search window.

Hello watchinggoodman,

2) If I go to a website which has multiple embedded links on the same page some of the links will work others will not. In other words if a home page has 12 links embedded in it, I might be able to navigate to 7 of the links but 5 would be cold.

It seems that some “types” of links are blocked while others are not.

I also have a work related program that I use which has some “hot links” (though not internet dependent – I mean they are links within the program itself. I’ve used this program for years on other Thinkpads with XP Pro without problem but on my x200s the links don’t work.

Anyone heard of such a thing or have any thought?

I’ll consider you a genius if you can help - Thanks

Bruce

To me it just seems like a software problem. I'd do a clean restore of Windows.

Check your security settings in IE. Maybe revert to default. When you installed programs or updates, they could have changed such settings or you changed them but did not remember. I don't think you need to resort to something as drastic as resinstalling the OS.
