T40 will not suspend on its own when plugged in

#1 Post by oholdeno » Tue Apr 20, 2010 4:20 pm

Hi all,

Bought a T40 about 4 months ago for real cheap on eBay and it's running great. Bad sectors were popping up on the hard drive lately so I had it replaced. I reinstalled Windows XP clean and all the drivers/IBM software needed for it.

No matter what Windows power scheme I choose, my laptop will not suspend on its own if it's plugged in. If it's unplugged it will suspend fine. In both cases, the suspend button works fine (fn+f4).

I do not have the 'battery maximiser' IBM app installed on my laptop and I'd prefer to not install any apps that I do not plan on using. There were no other Power management apps installed on it.

Please help! I can't figure this out and Google searches haven't found me anything.

Anyone? I wonder if maybe there's an app running on my laptop that's keeping it from sleeping? I'm not sure what could be the problem.

When you choose a laptop power scheme, don't you have separate options for what happens when you close the lid on battery and when on AC?
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Check Device Manager/Wifi card/Properties.
There are 2 boxes to un-/tick: "Allow it to be switched off to save power" and "allow it to wake the computer out of stand-by".
Make sure to UNtick the last (stand-by) option.

I don't see those options. I only see:

ad hoc transmit power
data rate
extended channel mode
power management
preamble

found out what it was. java quick starter was running and spiking the cpu up to around 15-20% usage every few seconds. disabling it allows my t40 to go into suspend.
