Hi all,
I was having a read through "Safe handling of your IBM ThinkPad system - ThinkPad General"
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... WIK-3X4GSR
and at the bottom there is this:
Rugged mobile computers
Some professionals work in environments that may require special rugged features to protect their computers from extreme temperature, humidity, and physical punishment. Construction, public service, distribution, service repair, and utilities are some of the environmentally demanding professions that may require rugged mobile computers that can withstand stresses. For these applications, IBM offers such computers (not ThinkPad Systems), especially designed for mobile professionals who need a system for managing and communicating information from the field.
Has anyone seen, know of, have links to these, or are they a "contact IBM" special build?
Just curious.
Cheers,
Rob.
IBM Rugged mobile computers
I *highly* doubt they are anything more special than a direct source from some of the big names in rugged computing. Likely a Mitac or Itronix system. Not likely a Panasonic, as they aren't really for super-awful rugged situations. Though perhaps a Toughbook 29 or 34. An Itronix GoBook Max would be what I bet they source. The GoBook Max is in fact certified for use in HazMat environments. It is in a class with few peers: Ultra-Ruggeds.
