Post warranty service

#1 Post by irus » Thu Apr 22, 2010 4:17 am

hi guys

i wanted to find out whether my laptop which is now out of warranty for over a year and has a few defects will be eligible for post warranty extension service? Is it necessary to first get the laptop inspected by IBM before purchasing the warranty extension? or can i simply purchase the onsite NBD pac even with the defective parts on the laptop and ask them to come and repair the same?!!

Thanks

Once warranty has expired, that's it.
You cannot get any more warranty extensions.

if u see post warranty service in australia http://www.orbits.co.nz/ThinkPlus_Lenov ... itions.pdf

page 2/7 bold part. it says warranty can be bought anytime within 4 years of the products life.

if the machine is in good working order, and is
within four (4) years from the start of the initial product
warranty.

on india site i read somewhere it can be bought during the entire life of the product... however i cant find that document anymore and the details of 12x6561 don't specify anything simply take me to the credit card payment option.

So what are the Terms and conditions for post warranty services for india and the original question from OP ofcourse. thats the main answer i need!

if i buy this particular FRU 12x6561 will i be wasting my money as i have a few defective parts in the laptop now ?

thanks

Let's say I am very surprised! This would open the door to any number of abuses...
My understanding from reading forum posts was that, once expired, there's no more warranty.
Seems I was misinformed.

Right! i spoke with lenovo reps and the impression ive got is "entire life of product" in india is 9 years. so warranty can be extended upto 9 and bought upto 9 years.

What the idea is that you pay Rs 1600 (compulsorily) and they will check the laptop (whether before or after buying post warranty pack) satisfy themselves of any physical damage not existing in the laptop and if its all ok/good working condition then they give a green signal to your purchase of the pac.

So essentially if i source parts from open market and make the laptop like new and buy that warranty pac the laptop will be back in warranty extendable upto 2014 for the T42p!

Wow.. Offering warranty for a potentially 9 year old T42 seems like a bad deal fro Lenovo, considering the GPU issues, and other things like CCFL and HDDs that wears out over time. I would think they run a pretty thorough test first, require some extent of owner history, and that the warranty is probably expensive compared to what a used T42 cost these days.

you're right on all those counts Norway

Plus it will cost ~$125 to get the laptop back in good shape by sourcing parts from ebay/marketplace forum

and service pac is for ~$100 a year !

so all in all $225-250 for getting it back in warranty with a $100 per year recurring expenditure till 2014!

Windows 7 goes upto 2014 and this laptop will have warranty till 2014.

the best idea is the buy warranty extension before the original warranty expires so that the first figure of ~$125 never comes in the equation!

i dont think running a 9 year old laptop is a good idea in the first place though
