T40 Hard drive etc

Hi all
I have had good use out of my T40 for five years 03 type 2373. Last week i turned it on and i had the blue screen with errors, windows would not start, took it in for a check up and was told that the hard drive was defective, with a cost of $240....paid $40 for that check up.. and decided to fix it myself, i took out the keyboard to see that the hard drive was a one minute job lol .So i bought a new HD $48 and installed it, plus put keyboard back like before, i knew i would need the recovery cd... So after turning the laptop on i get this
PXE-E61 Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F Exiting intel boot agent
Operating system not found
Is this normal or do i have something else wrong. I would like to know before i buy the recovery CD.

That is normal with no operating system on the hard drive.
