tagging pictures in XP

hello all

i'm working with thousands of jpgs as part of my dissertation project and while my current coding method works OK, it is a bit cumbersome and requires too much transcription.

in short, i need a program that allows me to apply tags to jpgs (preferably in specific spots on the image). i'd like to be able to write my own tags and recall them and generally accumulate data (i.e. so many tags for this sort and so many of this other, etc.).

any ideas? i'm working on a T43 running XP pro. thanks

hi all

i guess this is trickier than i expected - i've been searching and all i've been able to find is this page that shows one (seemingly very basic) way to tag pics in XP.

it seems like it would work OK but still somewhat cumbersome or at least not as streamlined as i would like.

any other ideas? thanks again

thanks for the links - i'd seen the first page but not the second so that's another option. for the time being i wanted to avoid 3rd party software and try to get it done within XP but that may just not be possible. thanks
