Help with Planar sys and T61 CPU Upgrade please....

#1 Post by dabs » Mon Apr 26, 2010 1:50 pm

Hi, picking up a T61 14.1" 1400x900 laptop tomorrow and thinking of upgrading the CPu from its 1.83GHz upwards. I have read thru a lot of posts and it seems some can accept penryns and some not or some are mermon based etc. Obviously dont want to make a mistake though I am looking at a T7700 on ebay and have a T7600 (dont think it would fit) lying around here. I have checked my serial and type No's on the lenovo support but not quite clear on what my CPU upgrade options are. My type is 7661-CH8. The nearest i could get to a recognisable system planar FRU was this : "42W7654 MICROASSEMBLIES; FRU CPU ASM INTEL CORE". I can supply the serial number if necessary though I think someone advised another forum poster not to include it in his post for some security reason... :?: Anyways, would like some help on the various/best options (power consumption/speed etc) for the cpu upgrade for this laptop please.

Since you have a planar that supports a Merom processor then you can only upgrade to a Socket P Merom CPU. The T7700 would definitely work in that case (T7600 would not since its a different socket).

May I inquire as to what you plan to do with your machine? If you're not doing anything CPU intensive, the better CPU will make little difference. If you've got the T7100 CPU, I'd say it's unlikely you can use a Penryn Core 2 Duo.
