remove motherboard on G41

#1 Post by winslow » Tue Apr 27, 2010 11:35 pm

I need to dissasseble my G41 to check connections, check thermal grease on processer. How can I disconnect the motherboard without worrying about breaking the connector. It uses 1 stamdard connector and another the same as the fan. It is very hard to disconnect them, I actually broke the one off the old motherboard when I was taking it out. Does anyone know the trick behind disconnecting it without fear of breaking it? Thanks in advance.

You don't need to remove the motherboard to check the grease on the CPU or heatsink. If you follow the directions on the instructions everything should be pretty easy to remove except the motherboard.

Here are the instructions for removing the different components from the G41

I would not recommend removing the motherboard if you don't have to. It is poorly designed to be able to remove because you have pull out from one end all the component/plug connections sticking out from the chassis and then on the side you have to push the two blue plastic pins in to be able to get the motherboard out, it is extremely difficult to do this at the same time without knocking the chassis into a row of capacitors on the motherboard which I did and ended up breaking the pin on one of them.

Actually I meant the LCD not the motherboard. There are two connectors for it. One standard and another smaller one like the fan connector. There must be a simple way I am overlooking. When I removed the LCD the first time to replace the motherboard it broke off. It was also difficult to reattatch to the new motherboard.

Okay, I know what you are talking about, those wires are pretty thin that connect the LCD. I used a pair of tweezers to grab the base plastic connectors to pull it out instead of pulling on the wires or trying to grab the plastic connectors with my fingers. When you reattach it don't push it in so hard and look at the connectors to make sure there is nothing causing the connection to be unecessarilly tight or get stuck like a bulging piece of plastic.
