Can only charge battery via Ultrabase

Hi All,

My Thinkpad X41 can seemingly only charge the battery when the Ultrabase is connected. I have changed cables, purchased a new battery, and still cannot keep the battery charged via the AC port on the computer. Any ideas what could be causing this, if this can be repaired, and is it worth repairing? It's cumbersome to have to take the Ultrabase on my trips. Thanks in advance...
