Mystery T23 part *SMALL PIC*

#1 Post by rkawakami » Mon May 03, 2010 5:27 pm

I received a request from another member here to identify a mystery part that fell out of a T23 when the keyboard bezel was removed and the system turned upside down. This is what appeared:

Since I'm at work and I'm typing on the only T23 around, I guessed that it's either a mounting tab from the Ultrabay or something that's supposed to be attached to the underside of the keyboard bezel. What's your guess? :)

If it helps one of those fell out of the left rear corner of one of mine. Never did figure out where it came from or how to put it back in. I left it out.

Never seen that before in all the ca. 50 T23s that have gone through my hands...
Perhaps a spacer to stop the keyboard from bending/flexing downwards?

Sorry for the delay but I got involved with other business when I got home. Looked at a couple of T23 bases and along with Ron's comment about losing one from the left rear corner, this is what you could have:

It's a mounting tab which is located next to the DC power jack and appears to connect the metal shield in the base with the rest of the system. It appears to be held down by one of the screws securing the hinge cover; the long plastic piece that runs along the top of the keyboard bezel at the back of the base. I wouldn't worry too much that it's missing.

Good find, and I HAVE seen that piece, but never separated from the chassis.
Makes you wonder how one can break off something like that!

OK so I goobed it.....mine was out of the top Right Hand corner. I flipped it upside down, and tapped on the bottom of the housing. When I picked it back up, I had the screw I was looking for....and the angled piece, left over, in the upper left corner (remember upside down) so it was top right corner. Above the Ultra Bay area.

I saw that spot early this morning and took photos of a second place where that piece may have came from. However the motherboard normally covers that spot and I wasn't sure if could slide out from underneath. Here's the second location:

Yep -- that's the guy -- left rear corner, right behind the fan. Thanks Ray & Ron.

If it does go on the left side no wonder I could not find on the right side!!!
