T60, 2008VEP, IS CUDA POSSIBLE?!!

#1 Post by Charlie.Brown » Mon May 03, 2010 8:59 pm

I was wondering if could swap out the ATI Radeon X1400 within for a CUDA enabled card. If so what is the highest end mobile processor possible?

Not 4 gaming. Linux 4 lyfe yo, or iATKOS depending on weather my birthday money comes through with enough for an Atheros based card. Moztly bruteforcing n shizz. Cuz I'm hardcore lyk that yo.

You can't swap the card since it's soldered to the motherboard. What you can do is get a dock and install an additional card there.

The fastest CPU that T60 will take is T7600.

CUDA processing uses a GPU? Therefore a Nvidia card W/ processor embedded or no?

OK, I don't think we're on the same wavelength here... :)

I understood your initial "mobile processor" question as a CPU one, therefore the answer I've given you.

Now, when it comes to graphics, do some research on Advanced mini-dock and what graphic cards it will take, I can't guide you there any further.

Perhaps explanation had been further elaborated, it would have looked something like,
Given that T60p laptop's contain mobile graphics processors or nvidia's trademark CUDA, to parallel CPU computing. I was just wondering if it was possible to swap out the existing graphics unit within my T60 for a nvidia card.

You could throw in a T61/p motherboard in there, although I'd highly advise against it because of the high failure rate of nVidia chips of this generation.

Good luck.

Only T61p motherboard will support CUDA.
NVS140M installed on T61 doesn't support it due to 128MB memory.

If you just need it for development (not performance) there is a CUDA CPU emulator.

That being the case, OP is out of luck since he can't fit a planar from a 15.4" WS T61p in his T60p, and 14" (4:3) models only had 128 MB VRAM even in "p" version...
