I wonder why state-student discounts vary?
If I were in CA, I would pay ~150$ less for my new Thinkpad.

All has to do with the contract that your state has with IBM.

Even the generic T430s batteries are expensive. $36 for the cheapest ones on Ebay for generic. T430 batteries are much less expensive.
