T410 - No express card slot?
T410 - No express card slot?
I have been looking at the T410 on the Lenovo site and a number of the configurations do not list the express card/34 in the configurator. Do such machines not have the express card slot avaialble and how does one get it if it is not configurable.
Re: T410 - No express card slot?
I'm almost positive the express card slot comes standard with all T410 models. But I'm not sure what happens if you order the smart card reader in the configuration.. I don't know if you can have both or if the smart card reader takes the place of express card.
Are you planning to add the smart card reader?
Because if you're not, then I'm pretty sure the T410 should come standard with the express card slot.. I'm about 95% sure that I'm correct.. maybe someone can confirm this..

Re: T410 - No express card slot?
As far as I can tell, the T410 should come with an Expresscard 34 slot. It comes with a filler card, but it is very well built compared to some the sad excuses of filler cards I have seen on Dells and HPs. Uses a hexagonal grid to provide strength while remaining light, also has a directionality indicator, in this case "TOP" molded into it. FRU number sticker on the bottom opposing side.
The smartcard reader may give you the case of the "whine" because of some weird "creaking" noise associated with the palmrest when people order the reader option. If you actually use smartcards often, then order the T410 with it. If you don't plan on using them that often, don't bother. (Especially if it will make you unhappy about the laptop that you plan to own for a while.)

absolutely annoying that creaking noise and indeed you got that right. Not good for a notebook of this standard...

Re: T410 - No express card slot?
My T410 has both.......the Express Card slot (34mm-wide) found at the right side of the computer and the Built-in Media Card Reader beside the latch. There you go, it can have both at the same machine.pac8819 wrote:But I'm not sure what happens if you order the smart card reader in the configuration.....Are you planning to add the smart card reader?.......then I'm pretty sure the T410 should come standard with the express card slot.. Re: T410 - No express card slot?
Not quite... The previously mentioned "smart card reader" is not the same as the media card reader. The media card reader reads storage cards like SD cards; the smart card reader read smart cards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_cardSchammyo wrote:[

Re: T410 - No express card slot?
not sure how this degraded into a smart card reader discussion but the T410 can have all three. the smart card reader is located on the left (above the HDD if so equipped), SDHC/MMC on the front near the latch, and expresscard/34 on the right.

), the photos at the bottom of this article on NBR should help: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.a ... nkpad+t410
now, if we're talking a T410s (emphasis on the 's') then that's a different animal altogether. those come with expresscard/34 no matter what but the slot gets populated with a multicard reader if optioned as such. the card reader can be removed to regain expresscard functionality but one must remove the keyboard and an internal screw to eject the reader.
